Author Review

Nice walk past an exotic plants business then into the woodlands. 2 large woodlands to explore with water for the dogs to cool down in on a hot day.

Not a very busy walk, we rarely see more than 2 other dog walkers. There’s 1 road to cross once you’ve been walking in the woods for a good 10 minutes. A bit of the woods to your left when you cross the road is private, but after that you’re free to roam. We’ve seen a small herd of deer here – roughly 5 or 6. You’ll have to backtrack on a bit of this route but there is a loop available to keep a large part of the walk fresh, but it will make the walk longer.

Our walk was a little over 3 hours long, but we weren't walking fast and were just enjoying the day. This walk starts opposite Nuthurst church, follow the private road down past the allotment (previously an exotic plants business) and then turn left. Follow the path from here, pass the houses to access the woodlands. If you follow the main path all the way along, you’ll come across a house and a road. Take a left and a few steps up the road until you can go right. From here follow the path all the way down until you can go left or straight on. We went left which takes us down to a large pond where the dogs could have a swim. The best spot to let them in is by the shack on the other side of the pond to where you’ve walked up from. Go anti-clockwise around the pond to get to it or you’ll have to cross a rather dodgy bridge across some stagnant water. We followed the path up from the small shack by the pond, until we came across a path on the right that didn’t seem to get many travellers. We followed this path all the way along. It’s quite a narrow path and slightly overgrown but is a very nice route to go down, with a stream to cross about halfway down. Once you get to a junction take the left until you reach a second junction, here take a right which will lead you over a bridge and back towards the road you crossed earlier. From here just backtrack to the cars.

Plenty of woods to explore here, we’ve visited several times and still find new routes to explore.

**Note from visitor email 24th June** Please keep to public footpaths on this route, and look out for private land signs/gates as there is private land close to public footpaths towards the end section of this walk. Also in the coming months please be aware that there is forestry work being commissioned here so some sections may be blocked.
