Pay and display car park at the bottom of Cadair Idris with toilets
It's a hike not a gentle walk, hilly, with scramble sections. There are well marked out routes and clear pathways up the Pony Path trail of Cadair Idris. The hike up Cadair Idris is straightforward and as you reach the summit there are more rocky sections to climb through and over. There are various pathways back down from Cadair Idris but we chose the Foxes Path, this is roughly a KM or so of pure scramble path that can be difficult to make your way down but the views from the bottom are well worth it.
There is a stream next to the car park for dogs to paddle in and at the bottom of Cadair Idris there is a beautiful lake.
There is a poo bin at the car park but none on the hike.
We camped at Bryn Y Gwin Farm Campsite (Bryn Y Gwin Farm, Cader Road, Dolgellau, Gwynedd, LL40 1TF) a mile or so up the road from the beginning of the actual Hike up Cadair Idris, lovely campsite that allows camp fires and is super dog friendly.
Cadair Idris - Snowdonia National Park from Bryn Y Gwin Farm Campsite
It is a busy route up Cadair Idris but the foxes path part is a very quiet route but as mentioned above is not an easy descent due to the scrambly nature of the pathway back down. A lot of areas you can let your dog off the lead if you are confident with its recall.
The views from both the top and bottom of this hike are simply spectacular and we can't wait to go back and visit this area again.
Make sure you carry enough supplies for your hike, the weather was alot different at the top than the bottom and we needed rain coats at the top.
