Car park for about 15-20 cars down Honeysuckle lane.
Pretty flat route as you're already at the top of the downs. Farmers fields around with livestock in - some of which in Clapham woods have the footpaths that go through them which are accessible by stiles.
No water here
Several bins by the car park, no others on walk.
Can also do the Findon Valley walk from this start point. - Witching Tree (W3W – succumbs.skin.dunes) - Tractor in the Tree (W3W – plastic.assembles.sleepless)
A nice walk over the downs into the mysterious Clapham woods. The woods have a history of UFO sightings, paranormal activity & satanic rituals. Although it’s all local superstition there is something eery about this place and it’s classed as one of the spookiest woods in Britain. Look out for the “Witching Tree”, a large, impressive tree where the devil worship apparently took place (W3W – succumbs.skin.dunes) and a very old tractor with a tree growing through it (W3W – plastic.assembles.sleepless)
Start at the car park and head south-west-ish across the park, at the right far end side of the 2nd field you can enter a nice but small wooded area. Follow the various routes back up the hill until you reach Honeysuckle Lane. Follow this all the way a long, there’s some really nice views as you walk along this stretch. Keep walking down until you come across a path that takes you right, this will take you to Clapham woods.
Once you reach the field just before the woods the path forks, follow the route across the field rather than the 1 that runs alongside the fence. If you follow this path all the way, through the stile and then through the gate on the right. Keep following the path until you reach another field (Cows are sometimes kept in this field) once you enter it, follow it round to the right till you see a gate – go through here and just a little way through you will come across the Witching Tree. This tree is like no other in this woodland and look out for the little voodoo dolls that some people like to leave behind (We’ve found 3 in total)
To carry on, keep walking forward from where you entered and you’ll come across a field with barded wire fences, go right and keep following the path. This will take you back to the field you crossed over earlier, cross over it and then follow the fence line along. Once the fence starts to wind back around, you’ll come across the Tractor in the Tree. Once you’ve seen this it’s just follow any of the paths back in the direction of where you entered the woods and then retrace your steps back to the car park.
