Large free car park with suggested donation. At time of writing was open 7am - 7pm but don't know if that is seasonal so check signs first
Mostly flat with some small hills. Very muddy and boggy in many places. is sections on B road, very quiet but no pavements
No ponds, rivers or streams here but in wet seasons areas get flooded which does create nice wet marshy areas to splash around in
Some in car park
Is a shop and facilities in the car park
The car park is large here and is a very popular area with walkers so we tend to try and visit and non-peak times if we can.
There are a few set routes which are signposted well, as well as public footpaths running through the area.
This is our first time doing the orange route - there are some lovely plains and fields to walk through, and whilst not the best route for animals ( we only saw a couple deer) there are some lovely views and this route takes in the castle ruins which are interesting.
If you are more interested in the animals I will post another route I do starting Dial Post so check that out...
*One tip - We started the route by following the sign in the car park 'All Walking Routes' which takes you further down the road and you have to effectively walk back on your self up the road. If you instead just walk past the main shop, then there's another path down to the road which costs out approx. 0.5km of just road walking, no idea why th4 other sign is there?!?! Think this would only apply to red and orange routes though as yellow goes another way.
