Head into the car park for the Onslow arms, and the canal car park is straight through this. Decent size and free.
Stick to the towpath and it's a very flat and easy walk, only raising in parts for bridges and locks. Woodland paths are much windier with narrow sections, steep muddy paths and small footbridges.
The canal is very calm but is a working canal with boats and locks. Within the woodland area there are several more ponds and a stream.
No actual poo bins, but general waste bin on tow path just past the canal centre.
Right on the doorstep of the Onslow Arms which has a fantastic beer garden overlooking the canal.
I don't know about you but there's not many things I find more peaceful than walking by a calm river on a hot sunny day. It's a really beautiful area, with fields, streams, woodlands and grazing animals lining the canal on either side with plenty of places to stop to sit if you want.
The car park here is right by the canal centre, and though my walk was about 4km you can go further in either direction. I took a right and walked along the canal tow path until I got to Barnshill bridge where I crossed over the river and took the next left down a narrow woodland trail. Through the woodland it leads out onto fields before re-joining the canal to come back to the start. I went on a beautiful day and whilst there were other people around it wasn't busy at all, so Hank was off the lead for most of the way and with paths, woodlands, and open fields all in the one walk it ticks every box.
