There is a lay-by on Marlpost Road with space for a few cars. No postcode, see map for location. Entrance to the walk is just North of the lay-by, on the other side of the road.
It's a nice, easy flat walk. The only hill at all was a small one over the stream but you can avoid this by walking on the bridleway which runs parallel to it. Mainly grassy fields, and muddy woodland paths which will be boggy in wetter weather as were quite churned up in places. No stiles, but several kissing gates.
No water when I went in July. We did cross a couple of small, dry streams though so can't say for sure but assume these have running water in wetter seasons.
No bins here
Pretty isolated here and not much else around, only a few minutes drive from Southwater village centre.
Very much off the beaten track here, it's in the middle of nowhere but is pretty easily accessible and very quiet so nice and peaceful.
Once you cross the road the small path leads into a couple of hay fields. There are signs for the first part of the walk to look out for deer, and to keep dogs on leads as whilst there were none when we visited they are also used for grazing. Once through the first couple of fields the path heads off to the left, and then you enter into a small patch of woodland. Hank was off the lead by now, and it's a pretty woodland with open spaces so a good opportunity to run around.
Heading right into the woodland we created a loop through the forest paths, and then a bridleway leads you back to the start past a small farm and beautiful old cottage with mill pond. Through the woods there are several smaller paths so good for exploring, or you can keep to the wider bridleways. If you want a longer route I'd recommend checking out the Public Footpath map as there are several links to other routes.
