You need to park on the road here on The Street (Nutbourne Lane). It's a very quiet road though and quite a lot of spaces, and then you need to walk north, turn right into The Street and then to start the walk take the first left and the path is in front of you.
The paths are mainly mud footpaths and grass field paths, generally very flat and can be narrow in some places. There are also some road sections but only very quiet private roads. At the start of the walk there are a couple of stiles, but they do have very convenient dog doors so Hank had no trouble getting through. Quite hilly but generally easy-going, bit of a steep muddy hill just after the pond.
No water here.
No poo bins here.
The Rising Sun pub is on The Street just down from the main entrance. Several beautiful cottages with impeccable gardens to walk past too.
**6th June 2021 Update: I visited here again this week and the gates to the pond have now been locked off so there is no access to it. A real shame, but must be private land so fair enough. It is still a lovely walk, but please note no longer any water!
Original Review:
This has to go down as one of my favourite discoveries since starting this site, it's a real change of scenery, very pretty and quiet, and if it wasn't for the rain it would almost feel like you are somewhere a lot more exotic!
The start of the walk takes you through some pretty fields and paddocks. Past these and along the path there's a right turn which leads into a small woodland section which includes the incredibly charming pond which would be a perfect spot to sit down for a bit on a sunny day, it's very peaceful. Follow the path past the pond and up the hill and then you cross Gay Street into the Vineyards. Gay Street is a single track country road and not busy, but just watch out for the crossing.
Once over the road and into the Vineyards I went left and then around to the right following the entrance road - the paths here are very well signposted. As you walk past the black barn at the end of the road take a right along, and then left past the thatched building. The path then leads round to the right and back through further vineyards and beautiful open fields. Keep going past the first couple of right turns and you come to the top of the hill which on a clearer day will give you fantastic views for miles.
Through the vineyards you'll come to a T junction, and if you go right and keep following that direction this basically takes you all the way back to where you started. Again, you will need to cross the road so just beware of that. There's some steps down from the fields to the road, the path continues through the driveway of the property directly opposite these.
As you reach the end of the path it leads round to the right and another very pretty mill pond. I took a left adjacent to the pond and this goes right back to the start, but you can continue walking past the pond if you want a slightly longer walk.
There are lots of open areas, but also some (very quiet) road sections and areas for grazing so a mix of off-lead and lead walking, but by the end Hank had still had a very good workout.
