Park in Quiet Car Park which is just South of the Bull Inn and plenty of space for lots of cars. Entrance is very narrow though and 6'6" tall. Entrance to the walk is right opposite the Bull Inn, and you can walk on the grass verge beside the road from the car park, not far at all.
Actual terrain is very flat, and generally a mix of field walks, small section of private road and muddy paths. There are several gates and bridges, many of which do have a few steps up to. Several stiles too which are a pig here! Large dogs won't get through.
You do walk alongside the Adur for a part, but this is not suitable for swimming dogs with high banks. There are a couple of streams which when I visited in July were mainly dry. Check my photos though Hank did find a small section of stream to splash around in past the church, and after crossing back over the bridge.
One general waste bin by the picnic benches in the car park.
Coming from Cowfold you pass a nice cafe and farm shop just before the car park, and the Bull Inn pub is right at the start of the walk too.
First off the stiles, this would be a fantastic dog walk without them but there's no way to avoid them so if you have a big dog or trouble getting over stiles then give this one a miss. Hank just got under the first one through the fields, but the one on the far right of my route map is very close boarded and I'm getting too old to lift a 50kg dog over these things!
It's a lovely start to the walk, since you've crossed the road you enter into some hay fields which are really pretty and a great open space for Hank to exert some energy. They had just been cut so the paths were a little hard to figure out but you can generally see sign posts on the opposite side of the fields to help you head in the right direction. Past the fields you cross the river and be careful the next part is a short stretch of road - very quiet private road though past the church and then it leads back into a footpath. There's a couple of bridges leading over the river but go past these as they're private, the main crossing is signposted shortly after.
Once over the bridge Hank found a small part of stream for a paddle, and then you have to walk through several grazing fields to head back in the direction of the start of the walk. Once you're over the small stream past the fields, you then just need to go past the farm buildings and you re-join the first part of your walk. The second part of the walk past the river is on grazing fields, there were no livestock today but there are signs to keep dogs on leads, so a half and half walk today for off-lead/on-lead.
