Village road parking only - free, I found a space just outside the Tea Room but will be busy on sunny weekends I reckon!
Mostly woodland trails and chalk tracks with a couple of grassy field sections. I went after lots of rain, and whilst bit boggy in parts not half as bad as some other routes!

Really nice little shop/cafe at the start and also a pub right there. Lovely ares of rural Sussex to drive around on a nice day and worth exploring for somewhere to eat/drink if you want to make a day of it.
Compton is a small quintessentially rural Sussex village and you start the walk from the small village centre with Tea Rooms and old buildings - popular stop for cyclists too I think!!
On the actual walk though was very quiet, only another couple of dog walkers to see.
As you park up you'll see the hill you're climbing and might look quite daunting, but on the way up apart from the odd short steeper section, generally it's a gradual climb and not too much effort needed.
Once walking along the top we were lucky it was a beautiful clear day and the views were fantastic.
From the map you'll see where I headed back down the hill at the cross roads a short while after the houses/farm buildings on the ridge. This was a steep and narrow way down, but from maps look like you can extend the route a little to further and take the next right down for a slightly longer route, with less of a steep section.
