I parked next to the village green just off the A29 opposite The Inn on the Green. Looking at the Inn the start of the walk is a narrow path between a few buildings to the right of the Inn. There are other car parks a short distance away and it's easy to walk along the green to the same starting point.
Bumpy muddy woodland trails for the most part with some very narrow sections and stepped parts too. There were a couple of stiles but had clear wide openings beside them, so not sure if may get repaired at some point or just permanently unused now but none obstructing me at time of my walk.
The lake itself is part of the nature reserve and signs say keep to the paths, and you don't actually walk too close to it although you can see it through the trees. There are however some great stretches of stream before and after it where it's great for dogs.
The parking spaces are right by the village green, and if you walk towards that there's a poo bin not far away.
The Inn on The Green and Cricketers Arms pubs right on the main road where you park, also football and cricket pitches as well.
First things first, I got lost here! So please use my route map with extreme caution, and do take a GPS app if you've not been here before!
I really enjoyed this walk and it takes in some beautiful scenery. Once through the narrow path off the main road you go through a couple of large open fields - there was no sign that these are used for grazing at all but do be cautious as I can't say they never are for sure. Through these you enter the woodland and there are several routes to explore - I carried on straight until I hit a small wooden footbridge, just before the bridge though there's a path up the hill on your right almost going back on yourself so I took that, and this takes you adjacent to the stream and past the lake which is a lovely walk.
Once past the lake is where I had the problem, there are several routes and past the houses I went straight over at a signed crossroads. I'm not sure if it's all the leaves on the ground right now (my excuse!) but I was sure I was following the path which led me to cross the stream, but at some point the path seemed to disappear and I was suddenly just walking through the trees. It was a lovely adventure though, but as we got to the stream you'll see by the photos the footbridge is clearly no longer in use it's just some metal beams, so we carefully crossed through the stream itself which was halfway up my wellies so not the greatest crossing point and I certainly wouldn't recommend. Heading back up the hill we eventually rejoined a path which took us back through some more pretty woodland, and eventually across another couple of open fields before joining Friday Street which takes you back to the A29 and the parking. I'm sure if you take a left or right at the crossroads that I went straight over at you can find a more conventional way back.
A little bit of an off-road walk then for parts, but a really nice quiet area with lots of off-lead time and a lovely walk I'll definitely go back to, and maybe try and find a better route once past the lake!
