Large private car park with ticket machines, check before you go though as is not open 24/7 - at time of visiting it was open 10:00 - 17:00, so make sure you have enough time to get back to your car! Is expensive too! We were just over 2 hours and was £9.30.
A nice flat walk, paved pretty much all the way round with paths in good condition, and few wet spots.
Several places with access to the water itself with shallow entry, do be aware also though that is used for fishing too so just be considerate if they're around.
Lots dotted all around the lake
Is part of the Great Windsor Park, and as well as the features listed above, there's also the Windsor Tote Pole, an impressive monument gifted to the queen in 1958. It is however due to be lowered in Spring 2025 so not much time left to see it if you're managing to see this before then! At the car park there is a cafe, toilets, and a handy dog wash station. There is also a little Cafe van half way round.
Certainly not an off-the-beaten-track route here, it's a well known location but definitely a nice day out walk if you can handle lots of people around. I went on a cold Friday morning in school time hoping it wouldn't be too busy, but there were still people all around the lake so not the best for a reactive dog, but thankfully Hank was an angel and we still had a lovely walk.
So I'm sure in holidays and the summer it will be even busier, but that's no always a bad thing and as long as you know that before visting then there's no surprises!
The walk itself is around the perimeter of the lake, and it's stunning especially in the early mornign mist and fog. Around the route there's some really interesting features and photo points too:
The Cascades is a 10m waterfall built in the 18th century, and just past this is some roman ruins - although these are legitimate, the location is not original with them havign been bought and relocated from Leptis Magna in North Africa in the early 19th century.
There is also Valley Gardens which is on the far side of the lake, which we didnt; explore too much of as we opted to go the lakeside route but from what we saw of them, and photos when researching they looked lovely so worth a stroll through if you have time.
Many areas do have dogs-on-lead signs, and some don't so just keep an eye out. There are a couple of areas where is close to the road too so just use your judgement.
