Large car park, it was a pretty overcast day so was plenty of spaces when we went and we paid £9 at the gate for the day - gets locked at 8:30pm (at time of writing). You can pre-book parking, and at peak times you must to avoid being turned away - check the about My Walk section for link to do this.
Mainly sand throughout with few bits of pebbles in places. At low tide there's huge shallow sandy plains. Around East Head it's a little more stony with parts of mud flats too.
Lots of poo bins in and around the car park
Lots of facilities here, cafe, toilets, water-sports. If you don't want to pay as much for parking and want a longer walk, you can reach here from Itchenor - Chalkdock marshes which is another walk featured on Pup and A Way.
This is an amazing beach, with wide sandy plains and great facilities it's absolutely perfect for a family day out. It's hugely popular though, so if you're looking for an escape from the crowds this is not the place.
Much of the beach is designated blue flag (between groins 14a and 18) which means dogs are not permitted between May and September, however if you drive past this there is still plenty of space for dogs.
We started just past the blue flag area, and went right which takes you round East Head, round the dunes and a nice loop back to the car park. You can go on to the sand dunes but look out for seasonal notices as at some times of the year dogs must be on leads here due to nesting season.
There's lots of dogs here which is great to see, running, playing and swimming. Hank still shoots off to play with every dog he sees so he was on the lead for most of our time, but there is lots of space and we found several areas to let him off and have a play. He's not a swimmer but we found some great shallow pools in the sand bars which he loved sprinting and splashing around in!
